Dover is easily accessible from all directions. Take Route 95 to Route 16 and use Exits 6 through 9 (8E is recommended for access to downtown).

Getting to and around the Dover area is fast and easy. It’s one of the many reasons so many businesses and visitors find Dover so attractive. Dover was named by New Hampshire Magazine as an Editor’s Pick for the “Best Traveler-Friendly Downtown.” Visitors can come to downtown Dover by train, bus, or boat, as well as by car, bike, or on foot.

Downtown Dover is one of three New Hampshire stops on Amtrak’s Downeaster passenger rail service connecting Portland, Maine, to Boston, Massachusetts. Dover’s lovely Chestnut Street transportation center, designed to provide access to all modes of public transportation, in addition to private taxi and limousine service, is conveniently located in the city’s downtown shopping area.

Dover is also home to the Exit 9 Park & Ride Facility where, C&J Bus Lines, the second largest provider of intercity bus transportation in Northern New England, is located. It serves five destinations with over 30 daily departures from the New Hampshire Seacoast and Newburyport to Logan Airport and Boston, Massachusetts.

COAST Bus, the regional transit system, serves 13 Seacoast municipalities, and Wildcat Transit serves travelers to Durham and the University of New Hampshire.

The readily accessible Spaulding Turnpike links Dover to Pease International Tradeport and the Route 95 corridor, which is just 15 minutes to the south. Dover also offers easy national and international access through nearby airports at Manchester, New Hampshire; Boston, Massachusetts; and Portland, Maine, each just an hour away.

The Cochecho River, linking downtown Dover to the Piscataqua River, offers boaters virtually unrestricted access to the Atlantic Ocean.

Dover’s proximity to the nearby coastal beaches, as well as to the many recreational opportunities available in New Hampshire’s lakes and mountains regions, contribute to the community’s outstanding quality of life.

    Parking

If you’re visiting the downtown area, you’ll note there are hundreds of on-street spots as well as several public parking lots. ┬áDover also just opened it’s first parking garage, which is located on Orchard Street.
